Functions
The Department for the Planning and Coordination of Economic Policy (DIPE) was established at the Presidency of the Council of Ministers with the decree issued by the President of the Council of Ministers on 21 June 2007.pdf, 1,15 Mb.
In accordance with the Undersecretary Reorganization Decree of 15 October 2008.pdf, 377 Kb, the Department provides support to the Interministerial Committee for Economic Planning (CIPE) and the Presidency of the Council of Ministers in matters concerning:
- infrastructure and transport;
- tariff regulation for public utility services (motorways, airports, ports, railways and water);
- division of national and Community resources for underutilized areas;
- productive activities and energy;
- research and technological innovation;
- health;
- social and housing policies;
- environment and development of mountain areas.
In particular, the DIPE is responsible for the examination of proposals coming from the competent ministries for submittal to the CIPE and for the administrative activities consequent on the latter’s decisions.
It also coordinates and runs the databases on public investments and carries out economic analysis of national and international trends and of capital expenditure.
The Department is divided into three general management Offices and four Technical Units.
